Hello, Im Chelsea the founder of Nature/ Based, and I’m an architect from Houston Texas. I grew up surrounded by plants in my family’s botanical garden and nursery. It has always been a place where people come to reconnect, relax, and find peace in nature. Watching how this could lift people’s spirits deeply influenced how I design spaces today.
Unfortunately, after our family experienced loss, We closed the gardens and let nature take over. Now we are trying to restore the space. The goal is to build community and bring life back to what has always inspired me.
The Biophilic Bungalow
is at the heart of that revival. It’s a small-scale architectural prototype designed to explore wellness-based design, biophilic principles, and non-toxic materials. All while demonstrating that beautiful, healthy living doesn’t have to come with a high price tag. We are approaching this project as an architectural laboratory testing :
Innovative natural materials
Low-impact construction methods
Familiar Texas forms reimagined for modern mindful living
The bungalow will serve as both a design experiment and a living example of how architecture can nurture health, creativity, and a connection to the land. This project is also a tribute to my mother and her gardens that brought us all so much joy
Follow the Journey
We are documenting every step from sketches to construction. We will share our thoughts on materials, show you the design process and share insights along the way
Follow along as we rebuild, reconnect, and rediscover a better way to live
